…a hot, injection, of some Cory Branan! It’s been sometime in the making, but, thanks to Suburban Home Records, you can get some Cory fresh off the boat…or the train…or whatever is in Denver, Colorado these days. So, Suburban Home records is the Suburban Home of many of MY PERSONAL favorite artists, not limited to, Jon Snodgrass, Drag the River, Two Cow Garage, Austin Lucas, Tim Barry…the list goes on and on.

What does all this have to do with Cory? Well, you should firstly, check out this link:

Suburban Homes Record Special

This is a link to the full stream player where you can hear Jon and Cory, tearing it up, the only way they know how? Curious about ‘The Walkaround’…well, it’s on there. The next link here is where to buy this lovely record. I am told that all vinyl comes with a free download and the vinyl is available in sun colored and moon colored! How awesome is that?

Autoplay

Monday, October 1st, 2007

You have spoken. We have listened. In order to bring you eggs without hair in them, and sweet tea without fingers, the videos will now be in ‘play-as-you-go’ thanks to all your comments. Thank you so much for them. I’m pretty much a post it up, and leave it up, then change it. Didn’t realize it was such as hassel and I do greatly apologize.

Well, on to the good stuff. Please check the dates at Cory’s Myshrine to see some exciting stuff. One of the most exciting moments for me is that he is playing with J. Roddy Walston and the Business in Nashville AND Memphis dates. If you can make it out there, you will not soon regret the rock and roll awesomeness that is Mr. Branan and the Business. On a serious note, J Roddy and them have single handedly renewed my faith that real Rock and Roll is possible. Here’s a non-autoplaying video for you if you want to check out what is to come:

And for those of you who haven’t seen a good Homemade Cory Video in a while, this one should tickle you.

And the first 5 people to write a cory themed hiaku will get an mp3 of my choosing via email.

All the best,

Hellbent & Heartfirst (The Tattoo)

Monday, August 27th, 2007

When I first met Sarita, she told me this story. It was so awesome that I decided if I ever got a chance to do a site like this one…that this would be a story. You are sorta familiar with her from the ‘Belly dancing Cory Vid’. Well, after much prodding, Sarita has decided to share that story with us here at the diner. Sarita, I can’t thank you enough, and I hope y’all enjoy it too. Here it is, in her own words:

For over a decade I longed for a tattoo, but just never found a design idea that inspired me enough. I thought I had at one point, until my girlfriend at the time made it into a necklace. I figured there was no point in getting a tattoo: “Hey, if you like how this looks in silver, check it out in the FLESH!” I lost the necklace a few years later but by then I’d lost the desire for that design, too (still miss the necklace, though).

In spring of 2006, some good friends of mine (Mimi and Cricket from Last of the Hardcore Troubadours) introduced me to Cory’s music. I first heard “Tall Green Grass,” and liked it all right. Shortly thereafter I procured both albums and fell hard and fast. I’m big into lyrics and, well, y’all know. Cory’s got that way with words. That summer I got obsessed with the song “Hellbent and Heartfirst.” Not so much with the “love at first sight” bit, but the idea of “skipping past the salt pillars where everybody turns back” and that “nothing scars you deeper than the things you haven’t done.” I tend to overthink myself into inaction, and loved the song title as a reminder to quit thinking so damn much and just GO. That, and the Miami Vice reference. I’ve spent MANY perfect moments geeking out about TV shows.

I started doodling on my arm in Sharpie when bored. I knew I wanted a heart, but couldn’t figure out the rest of the design - a Traditional American piece just didn’t fit my style. During a tattoo-obsessed weekend at the beach with a very patient longtime friend of mine, we happened to see this print and it hit me that I could do something similar, hiding the text in the linework. I got in touch with my friend and fellow dancer, Sara Beaman, about creating a design that would incorporate Cory’s lyrics into something that fit my personality.

Here’s the result:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

It’s the word “hellbent,” in an elaborate henna tattoo style. There are heart shapes in it, both from the observer’s angle and mine. The left side says “hell” and the right “bent.” The “h” and “b” are large and stylized lowercase letters; the “ell” and the “ent” are contained in each one, respectively. If you don’t see it, well, just ask me at a show. I’ll be happy to point it out.

I like that it’s elegant, yet big enough to be kind of badass. I like that I can choose to explain as much or as little as I please. I like that it gives me another opportunity to tell people just how awesome Cory’s music is. I love that it’s a daily reminder and inspiration for how I want to live my life; that the tattoo itself is an exercise in making a decision, acting on it, and living with the consequences.

Thanks to Cory for the words, and Sara for the design, and Tom Blackmar at Tattoo Asylum in Durham, NC, for bringing it all to life. Oh, and caseymagic for prompting me to tell the story.

Couldn’t take no more of that Rock-n-Roll…

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Happy July 4th, y’all.

Apologies for being so busy. Soon the video embedding will be done all in site, according to Mr. Rodeo. I did have the pleasure of spending some time with the boys from Two Cow Garage, whom, are super huge Cory Branan fans. So check them out, and their new record III is pretty damned genius. They will be playing with Cory up north somewhere, so if you get a chance to make it to that show…it’s a must-go.

Well, this is a good July 4th song in general. So play it today, give a listen…have fun…be safe.

Weekly Download-n-Stuff

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

Well, I’ve been listing to this song for most of the week. Or should I say that the iPod mass-shuffle gods select this track more than any other. It features Cory Branan, and one of my favorite folks yelling out requests. I was actually listening to this very song that inspired me to do this:

Bald Eagles and Sabertooth Tigers

I’m at home today with the lil’ miss, so while she was down for an afternoon nap, I checked out the movie ‘ATL‘. Couldn’t stop thinking about ‘Skateland South’ comparisons, and well, it was a decent movie. It would be like if you took Hustle & Flow, added a dash of You Got Served, and set it in a Rollerskating Rink in Atlanta Georgia. Great flick…check it out.

In other news, Cory’s myspace has been pimped. Some really nice graphics, new pictures, and a link to the diner. You can quick launch there by the right side bar.

Alrighty…enjoy the download…and again, suggestions are welcome.

Love,

Management

“Please don’t ever put that on the internet…”

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Well, as strange as that may seem, it’s true. Cory does a wonderful job here covering Mr. Lyle Lovett. I am veryist sorry that I missed the download this past week, however, I’ll try to get something ready today for wednesday. They still, for the time being, will be from YouSendit as we want to keep the availability as limited as possible, cause some of this stuff will probably only see the light of day here. So definitely feel special and download until your heart is content.

Since the video tabs thing was tossed out the window by the lovely JVC Corporation, I had suddenly remembered yesterday that a good friend of mine, Andy Bilinski showed me how to play Miss Ferguson on the guitar. Mine is terribly out of tune at the moment, and Andy is actually a musician, so whether he knows it or not, he’s been officially volunteered. Definitely check him out…be his friend, etc. Great guy.

Let’s see in other news, HurricaneNatalie has offered to snap videos at the next Cory show she goes off to see. I think that would be wonderful, and if anyone else wants to do that, by all means let’s do it! I can help you edit them, or do it for you if you like. The more we get out there, the happier everyone else is gonna be.

And y’all are awful quiet. So please make yon views and opinions known. Positive or negative. Oh and requests for things are taken very seriously, so please, make those known as well.

Master Peep Theater

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Well, if you were celebrating Easter, i.e. the death and ressurrection of Jesus, by microwaving Peeps…shame on you. Well, not really, cause that’s what I did, but in order to bring all of the insanity of the plastic grass holiday to rest, I have assembled TWO, yes, count’em TWO videos for your viewing pleasure.

The first one, which should be playing now, is the ever beloved ‘White T Girls’ from the show Cory did here in the Raleigh area. The second one, well, is a latent egg hunt of sorts. Go on over to Hardcore Troubadours website, show them some love and I imagine it’ll be up this week sometime. The link is theirs for the time being, and to find out, well, you just have to stay tuned to their stuff. If you want a hint on the song…

Hint #1 - It’s a new song.

Hint #2 - Picture Frankenstien eating a lemon and dancing.

I’m not really sure how many of you enjoyed last weeks download, so let us know on the boards, or hell, on this post. It don’t really matter much, just say something dammit.

Special thanks to Nate and Campbsr for at least posting some stuff…especially reviews and requests!

All the best,

Management
